  • What's the workflow like if we hire you for a photo session?
The only thing you need to initiate is to submit an inquiry. The rest of the steps I will guide you through smoothly. You can find out all the steps below.
  • How much does a session cost?
Please fill out the inquiry form above. I'll follow up within 24 hours to provide you more info about working with me, including pricings.
  • What locations do you shoot at?
I am willing to meet you where you want to create the family memories, whether it's a convenient location to your home or a special and meaningful place that you had precious memories in the past. If you don't have a particular location in mind, I have these recommendations. In-home session is ideal if you have a young baby who demands frequent feeding or diaper changes. Shooting at home also keeps them from the variable outdoor weather and temperature. it's winter. In DFW that usually means late Dec to early March. In this season, outdoor just isn't as beautiful or interesting as other times of the year. In-home sessions will instead create a cozy feel and capture your family memories in the comfort of your home. you want unique photographs that speak about your unique personality and tastes. Outdoor sessions can feel alike from family to family. There are popular photography destinations that photographers keep returning to over and over again. If that's not your thing, in-home sessions will truly show who you are, from your furniture, to decor, to the books on your table. When you look back decades later, these details will be as meaningful as what you are doing in the photos. If you want to shoot outdoors in nature, I like: Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano. Wood, prairie and creek. Beautiful spring flowers. Oak Points Nature Preserve in Plano. Woods, Prairie and pond. Murrell Park in Flower Mound. Lake front and rocks. Prairie Creek Park in Richardson. Woods and waterfall. These parks are good choices all year around. If your session is in a particular time of year, I can recommend more locations. Eg, Richardson parks have beautiful wild flowers late April - May. If you want to shoot in an urban area, I recommend: Downtown Grapevine Downtown Mckinney Downtown Plano Bishop Arts District Deep Ellum
  • Do you offer mini sessions?
I don't at this moment, as I am focusing on prioritizing the quality of the sessions over how many sessions I can sell. I only take one session per day and customize my storytelling to the specific families based on the number of family members and the ages of the kids; I also always scout the locations before photoshoots. All of these need more time and effort on my end than what mini sessions can offer. So I am greatly appreciative of the families who are trusting me to tell their stories.
  • What time of the day does the session take place?
It depends. If it's an outdoor session, it will be either one hour after sunrise in the mornings or one hour before sunset in the evenings, which works better for your family. If it's an in-home session, it will be when your home gets decent lighting and your availability. Common rooms to be used for photoshoot are the living room, master bedroom, kid bedrooms, dining room/kitchen, and maybe bathrooms. You can pay attention to how your rooms light up throughout the day and decide what's the best time for the session.
  • Do you have a studio for indoor sessions?
I use exclusively natural light for my photography, so I don't own a studio or specialize in posed portraiture in a studio setting. But I understand that some seasons of the year just aren't ideal for outdoor sessions. I have worked with a few rental studios that create a homy ambience and use natural light. I can share them with you to book the studio by the hour.
  • What should my family wear to the photo shoot?
I am glad you asked this question. I wrote a blog post about this exact topic. It's a 3 minute read at https://www.shotsofjoyphotos.com/post/what-to-wear-to-the-family-photo-shoot?referral=business-feed
  • What camera and lens do you use?
I have been a loyal Nikon user in the past 15 years. My current workhorse camera is Nikon D850. My favorite lens is 35mm 1.4. I love the documentary quality it produces, as if I'm an unobtrusive observer peeking into a day of your life. Also in my bag is a 50mm.
